After 30 years of celebrating environmental excellence in golf, STRI Group is pleased to announce that the management of the Golf Environment Awards (GEAs) will pass to the British and International Golf Greenkeepers Association (BIGGA), marking an exciting new chapter for the long-established awards ceremony.
Established by STRI in 1995, the Golf Environment Awards were created to recognise the individuals and golf clubs demonstrating outstanding commitment to environmental management, conservation and sustainability. Over the past three decades, the awards have grown into an important platform for showcasing the positive environmental contribution of golf courses and the people who manage them.
STRI will continue to support the awards during the transition, with BIGGA taking responsibility for the programme from 2026 onwards.
The move brings together the strong legacy and environmental expertise established by STRI with BIGGA’s extensive industry reach and close connection to the UK’s greenkeeping community.
For 30 years, we have been incredibly proud to develop and deliver the Golf Environment Awards and to provide a platform for the fantastic environmental work taking place across golf. The knowledge, commitment and innovation demonstrated by greenkeepers and golf clubs has continued to evolve, and we have seen first-hand the positive impact this work can have on biodiversity, water, habitats and the wider landscape.
The Golf Environment Awards will continue to celebrate excellence across a range of environmental disciplines, with five categories recognising individual achievement, positive environmental initiatives and ecological habitat management.
Nominations for the 2026/27 awards will open on the 3rd August and close in October, with winners announced at an awards ceremony on 19th March 2027 at Forest of Arden Hotel & Country Club.
For STRI, the transition represents the culmination of three decades of work supporting golf clubs and greenkeepers in understanding, measuring and improving the environmental performance of golf courses.
As the Golf Environment Awards enter their next chapter, STRI looks forward to seeing the programme continue to recognise and inspire the exceptional environmental work taking place across the golf industry.
