School is back in session and BASIS training dates for the remainder of the year have been released so make sure mark your calendars.
It’s vital you have the right qualifications and feel confident in decision making for your role.
We hold three BASIS courses at STRI HQ each autumn, ranging from introductory to intermediate level. Each course is taught in-person by Dr Christian Spring, Principal Scientist for the Group, and with an eight hectares research facility, you can get hands on practical experience.
There really is no better place to become fully immersed in turf, with the experts on hand to answer any questions.
Let’s look at the courses…
- BASIS Foundation in Amenity Horticulture – Turf
An introduction to agronomy, IPM and the safe use of plant protection products. This course is intended to give practitioners or those new to product sales in this industry a solid grounding in IPM for turf and amenity horticulture.
We will be running the teaching elements of this course entirely face to face, as this suits the course material. The exam will take place online after the course has finished.
Training dates are 24-26 November 2025 with an online exam 28 November 2025.
Cost per person = £1,130 + VAT (includes exam fee)
- BASIS Certificate in Crop Protection in Amenity Horticulture (turf or hard surface specialist modules)
This course is aimed at those who want to advise on the use of plant protection products or who want to take advanced IPM/agronomic training.
This course is taught face to face, with one week in October and one week in November 2025. This is to allow candidates to get the most from a live “in room” learning experience, to network and get as much live ID practice as possible.
At time of booking, please let us know whether you want to sit the turf or the hard surface specialist module.
The written exams will all be online, but ID and vivas will be face to face here in Bingley.
Dates for various elements of the course are as follows:
Week 1 teaching = 6-10 October 2025
Week 2 teaching = 3-6 November 2025
Online written exam = 8 December 2025
ID exam with live samples at Bingley = afternoon 9 December 2025 (candidates to arrive mid-morning to allow time for an ID refresher walk)
Vivas at Bingley = 10 December 2025
Cost per person = £2,990 + VAT (including BASIS exam fee)
- FACTS Turf Course
The course is taught face to face to enable candidates to be fully immersed in the course content, to network with peers and learn from other’s experiences. Teaching lasts for 3.5 days and the exam process is entirely online.
Face to face teaching dates = 21-24 October 2025
Online written exams and vivas = 11-12 December 2025
Cost per person = £2,195 + VAT (including exam fee)
