Wild Coast to Coast challenge takes Rolawn’s fundraising to new levels for Greenfingers Charity

Trade News / 14th August 2019

To mark the 20th year of their nominated charity, Greenfingers, the team at Rolawn has stepped up their fundraising efforts with multiple events throughout 2019. The latest, a 2-day, 170-mile Coast to Coast cycle challenge took place last weekend, and raised £903, taking the total raised year to date to £1,860.

On Saturday 10th August, in storms that can only be described as Biblical, four determined cyclists, Alan Featherstone, Mark Hatfield, Steve Handley and Kierron Moore, set off for Bridlington from Morecambe; with Mike Smith and Jonathan Hill, providing both technical and moral support along the route.

Cycling across the Pennines and through the Yorkshire Dales National Park is a challenge at the best of times, even for the experienced cyclist, but the conditions endured by these volunteers shows true commitment to the cause. The team battled torrential rain and gales, overcame technical issues, dusted themselves off after hitting the deck and righted wrong turns, spurred on by a singular aim – to improve the lives of families facing challenges far greater than those thrown at them on this ride.

Their achievement is summed up best by Jonathan Hill, Rolawn’s Sales and Marketing Director and Ambassador for Greenfingers, who says, “Chapeau to Rolawn’s intrepid cyclists, Steve, Alan, Kierron and Mark. A great achievement that was inspirational to witness and makes me proud to have them as colleagues.”

Rolawn has supported the Greenfingers Charity, which is dedicated to the creation and improvement of the gardens at UK children’s hospices, for over 15 years, through a series of fundraising initiatives and the donation of turf and topsoil for several gardens created by Greenfingers.
