STRI is delighted to have sponsored the Euro-Sportring Blackpool Cup, an international youth football tournament that took place over Easter and May Day weekends.
This comes following a full STRI Group design and build of the tournament site, bringing previously derelict and out-of-use land to an elite level sports surface and enabling the tournament to take place at this site for the first time in seven years. Participating teams were asked to complete a post-tournament evaluation, and the two Blackpool Cup weekends have been rated 1st and 2nd out of all Euro-Sporting events across Europe with the highest score ever recorded (95/100) for the May Day event.
We firmly believe in giving back to communities and, as main tournament sponsors, we paid for 60 local teams in the Blackpool area to take part and pitch themselves against teams from across Europe. The event attracted over 10,000 visitors across both weekends, with 900 teams from five different countries.
Alongside our sponsorship, STRI also had a continuous presence at the opening ceremonies and the event itself over the two weekends and ran a ‘guess the minute’ competition where two children won official UEFA match balls for guessing the minute of the first goal in FA Cup and Premier League fixtures around the time of the tournament.
We’re incredibly proud to have enabled the Blackpool Cup to be brought back to its rightful location and it’s a pleasure to be able to give something back to a thriving local community through our sponsorship.
“We used to stage an earlier version of this in Blackpool but now it has grown and Blackpool is perfect to host it; the new facilities are very exciting. It is fantastic to have STRI become our main sponsor, and for us to be able to offer youth football teams in Blackpool the chance to play in a big international youth football tournament free of charge, at the amazing new venue.” Gavin McIntyre, Euro-Sportring UK tournaments director
Eden Harris, STRI’s Marketing Communications Coordinator, chats to Ged Mills from Blackpool Cup TV about the tournament and why STRI are so proud to sponsor the event.
