STRI provides a unique drone service package, so you can see your sports surface from a whole new perspective.
Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV’s) or drones are not new; indeed, many groundsmen have their own and use them to capture their golf course or sports pitch at their best. What IS new, is the availability of advanced software allowing drone images and data to be manipulated in a way that can hugely benefit the sports industry from a multitude of different angles.
Imagine a high-quality image showing a bird’s eye view of your golf course, rugby pitch or bowling green, it’s going to show a multitude of hidden potential maintenance issues that perhaps wouldn’t be seen for weeks.
Drought, shading, irrigation leaks, pest infestations, wear and more can be seen far in advance, and the slick imagery provides a great advance in communication from groundstaff to members and other concerned persons.
This tool, in addition to general agronomic visits, can drastically boost the efficacy of sports turf maintenance giving unrivalled pitches and greens.
Aside from turf maintenance, golf courses are just one of the many sports surfaces which take up an incredibly large amount of land through the UK, often subject to additional management of habitats outside of greens, tees and fairways.
STRI has been producing ecological management plans for the UK’s golfing industry for thirty years with successes such as Hankley Common, Royal Portrush and Turnberry. Now, with the addition of drone technology, management plans and ecological surveys are more accurate than ever and allow a yearly progress update through drone imagery.
Other large scale projects such as woodland management, golf course construction and renovations can be monitored and manipulated through using our new drone service, following a project’s progress every single step of the way.
