Foundation Award in Amenity Horticulture

STRI offers a Foundation Award in Amenity Horticulture, recognised by BASIS.

An introduction to the key elements of holistic management, including the use of professional pesticides in some important areas of Amenity Horticulture

This foundation course is designed for people in Amenity Horticulture, such as groundsmen, greenkeepers, landscapers, turf producers, etc. It is also a useful introduction for those who wish to go forward to the next level and attain the full BASIS Certificate in Crop Protection.

The course will provide, in a very practical manner, the elements needed to develop fully integrated amenity horticultural management whether on the golf course, football pitches, landscape areas, shrubs & borders or hard surfaces.

Foundation training

The course will run in winter 2018 on 11 – 13 December and includes lunches, notes and a short 90 minute exam held towards the end of the third day of tuition.

You will need to book your own accommodation.

Training will take place at STRI’s Head Office and research facility in Bingley, West Yorkshire.

The course will run for three days and includes the following modules:

Module 1   Professional Pesticides

Module 2   Application of Pesticides

Module 3   Protecting people, animals and the environment

Module 4  Weed Control

Module 5  Weed Control

Module 6  Disease control

Module 7  Pest Control

The exam

The examination is a written paper consisting of 40 multiple choice questions (40% of the total marks) and three structured short-answer questions (60% of the total marks) with a time allowance of 90 minutes. A minimum of 70% is required to pass.

Those candidates who achieve the pass level will receive written recognition from BASIS of their achievement but this course does not result in a BASIS certificate of competence. This is to avoid any confusion with the Statutory qualification (full BASIS FSTS course).

On passing, the examination candidates will be added to the BASIS Professional Register as Associate members. To retain their membership they will be required to ensure that their annual CPD Requirement and Membership Fees are kept up to date.

If you require any further information regarding the course, or would like to reserve a place, please email or call 01274 565131
